I arranged to collect the Soil Box myself as the British Society of Soil Science head office is nearby.
I’d been wondering what sort of a ‘box’ this was and was concerned if it would be too large or too heavy. Max brought it to my vehicle in a cardboard box so I couldn’t see the contents until I got it home and unpacked.
Not too heavy or too large for me – a balsawood stained crate containing soil samples in plastic pots, instruction sheets, many handouts, magnifying glasses, stickers and plastic insects (what fun). Quite a cornucopia of goodies to trial in advance of my first demo to professional colleagues and later to local friends.
I’d invited them all to bring one soil sample of their own too. Much discussion and sharing of soil stories were enjoyed, followed by a slightly muddy time doing finger tests.
We all felt it had been most informative, interesting learning about feeling soil and learning about soils from each other.
Take home handouts were gratefully distributed, thanks received and my next thought was how to/where arrange to do this again.
