Zoom into Soil: Soil Water Content

Our first speaker is Utibe Utin who will be speaking on ‘Dynamic Soil Structure: Improving Predictions of Soil Water Contents in Agroecosystems’. Dr Utibe E. Utin is a soil physicist and Lecturer in the Department of Soil Science and Land Resources Management at the University of Uyo, Nigeria. He recently completed his PhD in Soil Science at the University of Aberdeen, United Kingdom, where his research focused on the interactions between soil structure, soil water retention, compaction resilience, and soil carbon dynamics. His work has advanced the understanding of dynamic soil structure through the development of a novel framework for inferring changes in soil water retention from simple soil structural measurements.

Our second speaker is Vincent Van Walt who will be speaking on ‘Precious water – Irrigation optimisation’. Vincent has many years experience in the environmental monitoring field. Over 40 years ago, Van Walt Ltd was established to provide quality equipment that provides consistent and accurate results for soil and water research. With over 40 years experience, Vincent continues to share his knowledge and expertise on groundwater and soil sampling field techniques and is often involved in training courses, demonstrations and bespoke telemetered installs for soil moisture research.
