Are you keen to give back to the soil science community? Do you want to make a difference to soil science and help others advance their careers or learn about the sector?
The society is seeking two new Council Members to support us in delivering local member activities: a chair of the Midlands Soil Discussion Group and a chair of the Southeast England Soils Discussion Group. If you are interested in any of these roles, please contact admin@soils.org.uk.
As a Regional Group Chair, you will be a member of Council, and once elected, you shall hold office for not more than three years in succession but shall then be eligible for re-election to a different committee post.
Chairs of regional groups, help In the efficient running of regional groups whose functions are to:
- Support members of BSSS in the regions by providing educational and social events which aid personal development and knowledge transfer
- Engage with the general public within the region to promote soil science and raise awareness of its importance
- Work with local stakeholders to inspire future generations of soil scientists
- Promote membership of BSSS to non-members
- Represent the views of the Board and Council and the interests of members at a regional level
- Provide regional knowledge and information to Board and Council, which may support the delivery of the society’s strategic priorities.

The Governing Documents for the Society are the Memorandum of Association and Articles of Association (the Articles) incorporated on 21 December 2009 and Bye-Laws adopted by members at the AGM on 5 July 2023.
