In support of World Soils Day on Saturday 5 December, the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO) is working with the International Union of Soil Science (IUSS) and have launched a scientific children’s book contest on this year’s theme Keep Soil Alive, Protect Soil Biodiversity.
In 2017, the Science Council launched the Technician Commitment, a framework for ensuring status and opportunity for technicians working in UK education and research institutions.

Are you a Chartered Scientist or interested in becoming one? If so, the Professional Practice Committee is accepting nominations for Fellow membership; those awarded Fellow are entitled to use the designation F I Soil Sci.
