Soil Acoustics uses sound as a proxy for soil health “a healthy soil is a noisy soil”. Soil ecoacoustics is an alternative field-based method for measuring the biological activity of the soil through the use of the Soil Acoustic Meter to record the sounds of invertebrates moving through the soil. This technology can be used by famers and land managers to inform their soil management practices, whether moving to more regenerative farming, or monitoring nature recovery projects.

“We joined the BSSS to take our place amongst the very best in soil scientists around the world. The application of innovation in science is the driver behind soil acoustics, bringing soil health measurement techniques to a wider audience.”
