Roberts Environmental are looking for a capable Soil Surveyor or Soil Scientist.
The role will involve both site and office-based tasks and will include providing support to regional projects across the business as required. You will be supporting the REL team in London, allowing you to develop your career within the Soil Science field.
The position provides an ideal opportunity for an ambitious, energetic and capable individual who is confident in communicating effectively with colleagues, multi-disciplinary teams, contractors and regulatory authorities from project inception to completion. The candidate must be able to demonstrate confidence in decision making during site works and competent in working independently where necessary.
Requirements
Essential
· Minimum 2-3 years of professional industry experience.
· Relevant degree in the soil science / environmental / consultancy sector.
· Proficient in field surveying techniques and soil description / logging methods for Agricultural Land Classification (ALC) and Soil Resource surveys.
· Proficient in technical report writing.
· Full valid UK driving license.
· Ability to travel to site regularly as required and be comfortable working outside in all weather.
Desirable
- Providing interpretive reports in the context of BMV land loss or for proposed habitat development (BNG).
- Computer literacy skills and use of programs such as QGIS, CAD and R Studio.
- Experience providing EIA submission documents, eg scoping opinion input, ES chapters, expert witness work.
Key Responsibilities
- Regularly attending site, undertaking investigations, walkovers and monitoring.
- Managing projects, dealing with clients and preparation of health and safety documentation.
- Liaising with LPAs and regulators.
- In situ sampling and testing methods, including using Dutch hand augers and trial pitting.
- Logging of soils to relevant and up-to-date environmental guidance.
- Report writing.
- Scheduling laboratory testing, where required.
- Willingness to learn and take on other soil science service lines as required.
