Fera Science Ltd are seeking to contract individuals and organisations to deliver soil classification surveys across England.
Fera and its partners are delivering a survey programme which aims to baseline and monitor the health of England’s terrestrial environment. Key to this is an understanding of soil types and condition.
We are looking for skilled soil surveyors/soil scientists who are comfortable describing soil profiles and classifying soil to the series and soil subgroup level. A strong understanding of the Soil Survey Field Handbook (Hodgson, 2022), Soil Classification for England and Wales (Higher Categories) (Avery, 1980) and the Criteria for Differentiating Soil Series (Clayden and Hollis, 1984) is essential.
Applicants should demonstrate previous experience delivering to this standard.
This project is supported by ArcGIS software, including Online (AGOL), Field Maps and Survey123.
Successful candidates will need to be comfortable collecting data using tablets, digital mapping tools, and Excel to accurately locate survey points and record data. Equipment, training, and support will be provided.
This exciting and important survey programme offers an opportunity to contribute significantly to environmental understanding.
