Professional Practice and Development Sub-Committee Roles

Voluntary

Are you keen to give back to the soil science community? Do you want to make a difference to soil science and help others advance their careers or learn about the sector?

If so, we are looking for members to support our newly created Professional Practice and Development Sub-Committee (PPDSC). The function of the sub-committee is to support the Professional Practice and Development Committee (PPDC) with the review of membership, Fellow and Chartered Scientist (CSci) applications and the annual audit of Continual Professional Development (CPD) submissions for Full and Fellow members and CSci registrants. Further details can be found in the Terms of Reference.

The benefits of being part of the Professional Practice & Development Sub-Committee (PPDSC)

With an approximate commitment of three hours per month, and slightly busier times during the CPD review period, being part of the PPDSC allows you to:

  • get involved with the functioning of the Society and engage across BSSS member activities;
  • contribute to the professional development of your peers as well as learning from other soil professionals;
  • keep up to date with the work of your peers and identify CPD opportunities across a range of professional areas;
  • gain valuable experience to contribute to your own CPD.
Testimonials

“Reviewing Continual Professional Development (CPD) is a great way to diversify your own CPD, provides inspiration for goals towards future CPD and helps reviewers stay up to date with research and what is happening across the Society” (Lucy Gilbert – PPDC Member)

“Great opportunity to interact with your soil science peers and support the work of the Society. The time requirement is modest (a few hours per month) and it’s always interesting to see how broad – and important – soil science is” (David Tompkins – PPDC Incoming Chair)
