Location
We are seeking to recruit to our Glasgow office. We may consider alternative base locations for exceptional candidates.
Essential Knowledge and Experience
To be successful in this role, we expect you would have:
- A first degree in Hydrology, Soil Science or a similar subject
- 7+ years of demonstratable industry experience within peatland assessment, peatland restoration and/or sustainable drainage. Experience with hydrology and/or hydrogeology or water-based engineering would also be advantageous.
- A full member of (or working towards membership of) a relevant professional body.
- Provision of technical expertise to support our peatland services including:
- Peatland restoration, including survey, feasibility studies, design, adherence to the Peatland Code, working under the Peatland ACTION framework, validation support, technical specifications, on site management and supervision of restoration works and long term monitoring.
- Geology, hydrogeology and soils EIAR chapters and supporting appendices to typically include private water supply risk assessments, GWDTE assessments, peat management plans, peat landslide and hazard risk assessments and carbon balance assessments.
- Provision of expert witness and technical responses to a broad range of peat and soil matters including responding to and addressing stakeholder objections, interpretation and fulfilling the requirements of NPF4, and technical queries (TQs) on construction / restoration projects.
- Provision of a technical lead on all peatland project workload, to include development and input to methodologies, provision of lead author on deliverables, provision of staff mentoring, keep staff updated on training opportunities, keeping abreast of changes to regulations and policies effecting peat management, effective delegation of work and acting as a technical reviewer to ensure deliverables achieve client expectations for scope, budget, schedule and quality.
- Contribution to business development to include identifying and developing new opportunities, preparing and reviewing proposals, and developing new business through new and existing clients.
- Collaboration with other Gavia Team Leads, Technical Directors and Senior Management to develop sales strategies, identify crossover opportunities and contribute to company business plans. Promotion of Gavia’s services and contribution to Gavia’s marketing activities such as marketing campaigns and materials, snippets for social media and attendance at suitable conferences.
- Ensuring compliance with Gavia’s Health and Safety, Quality and Environmental policies and procedures and ISO Integrated Management System.
- Ability to lead and work as part of a team, demonstrating a drive and commitment to meet targets whilst motivating others to achieve their best results.
- A full driving licence valid in the UK.
Salary and Benefits

Additional Information
For this role, you must have evidence of the right to work in the UK. Unfortunately, we are not able to offer a relocation package with this position.
