Dr Megan completed her PhD funded by the CENTA DTP at the University of Warwick and now works as a Research Fellow at the same university. Her thesis examined how natural and anthropogenic disturbance of soils affects emissions of climate-relevant gases, with a particularly exciting collaboration with researchers in the US to try and understand how periodical cicada emergence affects soil processes. Her current research focuses on determining mechanisms of reactive nitrogen gas production in soil, the overall effects of these gases on carbon and nitrogen cycling in soil, and subsequent global change. Megan is interested in combining scientific research with public outreach to increase awareness of soil health and the role of soil in global sustainability. The need to protect soil health for food production, biodiversity, and sustainable land-use is becoming increasingly apparent globally, making this an exciting time to join the BSSS Council.
