Oct 18, 2021 | News

This summer, the Southeast Soils Discussion Group (SEESOIL) have had some new members join the committee. Below is an update and a brief outline of each of their experience.

Leila Froud – Chair

Leila has a background as a soil scientist and agri-advisor and environmental regulator, and has recently joined the Soil Association in certification. As a previous chair of SWSDG, Leila has a lot of experience of running a regional group which she hopes to bring to SEESOIL. Leila’s aims for the group are to reach out to people interested in soil who perhaps have not previously attended our events, whilst increasing SEESOIL and BSSS membership and visibility.

Julian Gold – Deputy

Julian is a Farm Manager who has been enthusiastic about soil Health since about the age of 10! He was winner of soil farmer of the year in 2019 and is involved with a number of soils/sustainable farming projects and trials. He is keen to help bridge the gap between Scientists/Researchers and the practical farming community.

Marcos Paradelo Perez – Treasurer

Marcos is Fellow in Soils at the Natural Resources Institute – University of Greenwich. After his PhD studies at the University of Vigo (Spain) on the fate of colloidal pesticides in soils, Marcos worked as a postdoc at Aarhus University (DK) and Rothamsted Research. He is interested in the interactions between soil structure and soil microbial communities under different agricultural management. From 2021, Marcos is leading the Master’s in Agriculture for Sustainable Development at the University of Greenwich.

Lizzie Sagoo – Secretary

Lizzie is a Principal Soil Scientist at ADAS with specialist knowledge of soil and nutrient management and diffuse pollution of air and water from agricultural systems. Lizzie joined ADAS in 2003 following a PhD at the University of Leeds. Her current research projects focus on soil quality and nutrient management, use of precision farming technologies and environmentally sustainable recycling of organic materials to land.
