Statement from Jack Hannam, President of the British Society of Soil Science
It was never going to be easy to write this post, but I share the news that our Executive Officer (EO), Sarah Garry, has stepped down as BSSS EO to pursue an exciting new chapter in her career journey.
Over the last three and a half years, Sarah has chartered the Society into an exciting new phase, transforming the organisation both internally and externally. We are in a brilliant position to continue her visionary approach that has shaped the Society’s recent successes. I am very sad to bid farewell to Sarah, but incredibly excited for her as she embarks on this new opportunity in her professional life.
Sarah’s last day with us will be in mid-November 2023. Until then, Board and the Executive team will work closely with her to ensure a seamless transition. As we look to the future, we see this as an opportunity to welcome new perspectives and ideas. The Board will start the process of searching for a new EO soon. We are looking for someone who can build on Sarah’s excellent work, developing and delivering the BSSS strategy to meet our shared mission and vision.
Once again, please join me in expressing our heartfelt gratitude to Sarah for her exceptional leadership. We wish her the very best, knowing that she will achieve great things and success in her future role.
