We are continuing to grow the depth and breadth of the technical services that our geoscience and geo-engineering teams can provide for our clients, including in the field of soil science. As a result, we are recruiting a scientist to join our Land Quality team (within our Water, Energy & Environment business unit) to enhance our team strength in providing high quality soil science and geo-environmental advice to our clients. The role will require flexibility to work across a range of sectors including nuclear, rail, highways, utilities and water and also including other emergent sectors.
The individual we seek should have expertise in soil science, including its application to areas such as environmental impact assessment, soil/peatland management, ecological mitigation, landscaping and natural flood management. The ability to provide input to the design and coordinate soil surveys for a range of purposes is essential, and the ability to occasionally undertake soil surveys is desirable. Good all-round technical expertise in geo-environmental work is also desirable, with experience of infrastructure and development projects.
You will need to be a team player, capable of developing a network of contacts with clients and within the wider Jacobs team. You will need to be willing to work away from your base office, with a high level of personal responsibility and show an adaptable and flexible approach to a range of project requirements. Commercial awareness is essential.
The successful candidate will be working within the UK and Europe Land Quality team, which includes over 70 soil and contamination specialists that provide strategic advice and innovative solutions to manage our clients’ subsurface environmental liabilities and opportunities. The location for the role is flexible amongst our UK office locations. Jacobs are keen to embrace the ‘new way of working’ with a mixture of home and office-based work supported. It may be necessary to be based in other Jacobs offices or at our client offices or sites as projects require. Applicants are required to have a UK passport or valid work visa.
Here’s What You’ll Need
The candidate will be expected to meet the majority of the following requirements.
- Possess a good undergraduate degree in a relevant subject (Geology, Earth Science, Chemistry, Environmental or Engineering related discipline).
- Hold an MSc in a relevant subject.
- Previous soil and/or geo-environmental consulting experience including a mixture of site and office-based work.
- Committed to health and safety and experienced in mentoring junior staff in safe working practices.
- Demonstrate excellent communication skills and the ability to work as part of a large multi-disciplinary team and build positive working relationships.
- Hold a full driving licence.
- Have the ability to produce well-presented and accurate reports is essential in this role and a willingness to learn new skills and apply them in a consultancy setting.
