The British Society of Soil Science is a Learned Society and registered charity (No. 1134456).
What information do we collect and how do we use it?
The types of personal information we collect may include your title, first name, surname, gender, year of birth, nationality, your qualifications, home and work contact details (telephone, postal address and email addresses), credit or debit card details and bank details. We may also collect information relating to your employment, including your current employer, your job title, area of expertise and your job function if this is relevant to your membership. In applications for some types of membership we ask you to identify a referee and provide contact information for them. When purchasing a product or service your credit/debit card details or bank information may be collected and temporarily stored until we have processed your order.
How do we protect member information?
When you register on the website to become a member, book an event or make a purchase through the Store we use a secure server. The secure server software (SSL) encrypts all information you input before it is sent to us. Furthermore as required by the UK Data Protection legislation, the Society follows strict procedures in the storage and disclosure of information, which you have provided.
Disclosing information to THIRD parties?
The British Society of Soil Science does not disclose any personal information that is held on you to any unrelated THIRD party, except where you have given your express consent for us to do so or where required by law.
If you have opted to receive the Society’s Journals (Soil Use and Management and European Journal of Soil Science) by post (rather than electronically) then your preferred postal address details are supplied to the Publisher (John Wiley and Sons Ltd).
If you are a Chartered Scientist (CSCi) your name, gender, year of birth, BSSS Membership number and email address is shared with the Science Council as part of the Society’s role as a Registrant for the award. We also record your Science Council registration number. There is a signed Data Sharing agreement in place between the Society and the Science Council for this purpose.
To ensure we provide you with the best possible service it is important to keep the data we hold on you up-to-date. You may change any of the information you have supplied at any time by logging into your membership account. Alternatively you can email any amendments required to email@example.com
Access to Personal Data
You can seek access to the personal information we hold about you, by contacting us. You should include your name, address and telephone number. If the information we hold about you is inaccurate, incomplete or outdated, please inform us so that we can correct it.
