Event description:

EGU2020: Sharing Geoscience Online (#shareEGU20) aims to bring part of the activities of the EGU General Assembly 2020 online. We hope that authors and conveners will join us in sharing their research and discussing with colleagues.

Scientific sessions

What are the possibilities for authors?

  • All abstracts received a DOI and remain on www.egu2020.eu as accepted contributions.
  • We invite authors to share their presentation materials. These materials can be anything that authors wish to highlight, one or more figures, a few slides, an animation, a poster, etc. This material will probably be limited to 50 MB to allow fast download and viewing.
  • The option for the upload of presentation materials opens on 1 April 2020 and remains until the end of May.
  • As for your abstract, any presentation materials are distributed under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 License allowing anyone to share as long as the authors are cited.
  • Authors can opt in to allow comments and feedback on their presentation materials. Commenting is enabled for users logged in with their Copernicus user ID and their names are disclosed. This feedback option is open from 1 April until the end of May.
  • We hope that authors and participants use this opportunity for constructive discussion. Author comments are identified as AC while community comments are marked as CC.
  • It is possible to revise the presentation materials and the discussion threads follow the newest version.
  • Presentation materials and comments remain online.
  • Contributions to EGU2020: Sharing Geoscience Online all have the same format called displays. This means that the scheduled posters, orals, and PICOs are then displays.
  • During EGU2020: Sharing Geoscience Online, we will open a chat channel per scheduled session, where authors and attendees can actively discuss the presentation materials. Please note that this does not involve live presentations or streaming.
  • Chats will not be recorded so that an open discussion is stimulated.
  • We post more information about how this chat will function as soon as we can.
  • We may need to merge some time blocks of sessions in order to enable a functional chat. Information will follow.

What are the possibilities for conveners?

  • Your session was scheduled for the EGU General Assembly 2020 and will be part of EGU2020: Sharing Geoscience Online.
  • In the course of EGU2020: Sharing Geoscience Online all abstracts will have the same format called displays. This means that the scheduled posters, orals, and PICOs are then displays.
  • The scheduled days and times (time blocks) of your session are kept but we may need to merge some time blocks. If your session was scheduled for more than one day, we will try to consolidate to one day.
  • Starting with 1 April, we invite all authors to connect presentation materials with their abstract and opt in for allowing comments by the community. This will facilitate discussion and exchange between authors and colleagues without necessarily requiring an active role by conveners. But of course, all conveners are invited to take part in this discussion.
  • During EGU2020: Sharing Geoscience Online, we will open a chat channel per scheduled session, where authors and attendees can actively discuss the presentation materials. Please note that this does not involve live presentations or streaming.
  • Conveners and/or chairpersons are asked to moderate the chats: you can introduce the session, ensure that all displays get some attention, and ask questions to stimulate the discussion.
  • Chats will not be recorded so that an open discussion is stimulated.
  • We encourage conveners to get in touch with their authors (through your session mail tool) later in April after we informed in more detail about the functionalities of the chat and the conversion of all abstracts to the display presentation type.
  • We hope that conveners will help us making EGU2020: Sharing Geoscience Online an exciting, useful, and active event for the geoscience community.

How can I attend?

  • EGU2020: Sharing Geoscience Online is open to anyone interested and is free of charge. This follows EGU's principle of open access to scientific output.

  • You can view presentation materials uploaded by authors which are distributed under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 License allowing anyone to share as long as the authors are cited.
  • You can comment on these presentation materials by logging in with your Copernicus user ID and disclosing your name.
  • You can participate in the chats of the sessions during the EGU2020: Sharing Geoscience Online week.
  • Participating in any EGU events, including EGU2020: Sharing Geoscience Online, implies that you adhere to EGU's Code of Conduct.

Information about the opportunities for other sessions and events during EGU2020: Sharing Geoscience Online will follow as soon as we can provide these.
