The British Society of Soil Science (BSSS) is currently searching for a new Editor-in-Chief of Soil Use and Management (SUM). SUM is an international journal published by Wiley which aims to advance the application of soil science principles to solve the main issues related to the use and management of soils. It has ranked amongst the top rated soils journals for many years and provides an international forum for innovative soil science research. The journal is published via six issues per year.
The Editor-in-Chief is a prestigious leadership role, encompassing the strategic development of the journal and the management and operation of the journal team of deputy editors and associate editors. We are seeking someone especially forward thinking, able to continue with the development of this journal to meet the needs in a rapidly evolving publishing landscape, and up to date with the latest developments in the world of publishing and journal promotion via social media.
The role involves working closely with the BSSS and Wiley to continue to grow the international success of the Journal. The successful candidate will need to be able to devote a number of hours each week to the Journal and there is an attractive annual honorarium for the role. The term of office is initially five years with the possibility of an extension by mutual agreement. We envisage that the successful candidate will take up the post of Editor-in-Chief preferably by October 2019 and by December 2019 at the latest.
Applications are invited from individuals with extensive knowledge of soil science and deep understanding of the science requirements of practitioners, policy makers and regulators. The individual must have internationally recognised active scientific stature and an extensive record of scientific publication commensurate with their career stage.
