- The Review Editor’s aim will be to identify topics and commission authors to provide a review, which will then be classed as an invited review and given ‘free-to-view’ status for one year.
- The aim will be to have one review per issue per journal, which would be 10 reviews per year.
- The purpose of a review paper is to collate recent progress in a particular topic. Overall, the paper should summarize the current state of knowledge of the topic and provide a commentary on that to give some additional insight. It creates an understanding of the topic for the reader by bringing together the findings published in recent research papers.
- The Reviews Editor will need to look at ‘cutting edge’ topic areas in both journals and recommend subjects and potential authors to the editors.
Some guidelines will be needed about length and structure of review papers.
For example word length for EJSS – 10 000 and for SUM – 8000.
The reviews should follow the standard pattern of an Introduction, which establishes the subject matter and purpose of the paper, a core that provides the information supporting the purpose, and a final section of concluding remarks, reflections, and needs for future research and potential applications.
All reviews should include some general illustrative material.
