Today at the 20th World Congress of Soil Science the International Union of Soil Sciences (IUSS) has awarded the 2022 World Congress to the British Society of Soil Science. The 20th World Congress of Soil Science is currently taking place at the International Convention Centre, Jeju Island, South Korea. Entitled “Soils embrace life and universe” the congress celebrates the 90th anniversary of the IUSS.

On 31 October, the Global Soil Partnership Secretariat convened a workshop to discuss about the establishment of the European Soil Partnership. The Berlin communiqué was prepared by the participants GSP partners and agreed to establish the European Soil Partnership whose Secretariat is based in Ispra, Italy. Also, the establishment of a Sub-regional Soil Partnership within the European Soil Partnership whose Secretariat would be based in Moscow, Russian Federation was endorsed.
UK Soil Observatory (UKSO) online web portal will be formally launched today (April 10th 2014). The portal represents a collobaration of a number of institutions including; the James Hutton Institute (JHI); the Agri-Food and Biosciences Institute (AFBI); the British Geological Survey (BGS); Centre for Ecology and Hydrology (CEH); Cranfield University and Rothamsted Research to produce an online national and regional soil cartographic mapping, monitoring and data resource.
