Since 1947, we have provided support for continued professional development, peer reviewed journals of the highest quality and the expansion of soils knowledge through training and knowledge exchange.

A range of membership categories are available:
Early Career Membership - Open to all registered students of soil science and its allied disciplines.
Associate Membership – Open to anyone with an interest in soil science or who does not meet the other membership categories yet. Please note this level of membership does not qualify to receive the Journals or discounted rates to attend Working with Soil training courses.*
Technical Membership - Open to skilled and experienced administrative staff engaged in soil science research, government, NGO and commercial activities, but who are currently not eligible for Full membership. This level is also open to recent Graduates who may not yet have the experience required for Full Membership.
Full Membership (M.I. Soil Sci.) – Open to scientists and other professionals with a minimum of 5 years track-record in soil science research or application
Fellow (F I Soil Sci.) - BSSS Council recommends the award of Fellow to members who have achieved an important level of responsibility and professional experience with National/International recognition within the profession.
BSSS also provides an opportunity to gain accreditation as a Chartered Scientist (C Sci.) in partnership with the Science Council.

Regional Groups - Discounted or complimentary attendance to technical meetings and visits arranged by local regional groups in England, Scotland and Wales as well as national/international specialist interest groups.
Conferences - Considerable discounts to BSSS conferences and events on soils, including our excellent Working With Soil series of training courses.*
